Joe Weisenthal has written a wonderful article with 8 suggestions to help reduce the high cost of health care. I have covered some of these ideas previously in my post Cut your Health Care Costs.
Health insurance has taken the consumer out of the equation
Simply adding people onto the “covered by insurance” list will drive health care costs through the roof. The rise in health care costs is parallel to the rise in the percentage of every health care dollar paid by insurance. This correlation can be traced back to the beginning of health insurance.
Unfortunately, I doubt anyone in government has the fortitude to reduce the covered services under Medicare and private insurance. The only way to find the true value of a product is to involve the consumer. When insurance is paying the bill, the consumer doesn’t care what the cost might be.
