Not all asthma flares are created equal

Posted Jul 29 2010 6:31am

You would think feeling like you can’t breathe very well feels the same all the time, no? That couldn’t be farther than the truth. I feel asthma in so many different ways. I think it has to do with what’s triggering the flare, what my “baseline” is at the time, and probably my mood and mental status. Here are a few descriptors I use. They are good for mixing and matching too; they work in any combination.

  • Tight-chested
  • Short of breath, puffy
  • Air-trappy
  • Cough-y
  • Wheezy
  • Hurty
  • Generally feeling icky, fidgety, and whiny

Do you have any more to add? How do you feel a flare? It’s taken me awhile to associate each type of breathlessness with particular triggers, weather patterns, time of day etc. Of course I haven’t figured it all out yet and probably never will. Asthma is not as straightforward as it appears, there must be so much going on down there. Anywho, not sure why I thought of this just now. Enjoy your day! :)
