I was cleaning off my desk the other day and I found this paper stuck in a small book on co-dependence I'd been reading a while back. I taped it up to the shelf above my desk so I can be reminded of these things:
Today I will practice healthy giving, understanding that caretaking and compulsive giving don't work.
I choose what I want to give, to whom, when, and how much; I am powerless over other people's expectations of me. I'll think about what I want and consider that how I respond to other people's needs will affect the course of my life.
I will own my own power and choose the course that's right for me.
It takes time to learn how to give in healthy ways.
