We always try to go for a hike on Canada day, I would say it’s the perfect way to spend the holiday. Today we hiked up to a pass, it was an 18 km round trip and took us about 5 hours. I shall treat you to some pics!
Creek near the bottom of the trail. I have a thing for rivers and creeks and streams, especially these glacier-fed ones that are so clear!
Here’s a shot of a meadow about half-way up. Pretty snowy! See that ridge on the right-hand side? That is where we hiked up to!
My dad and brother at the top of the pass. It was just a wee bit chilly!
The view from the top!!
Lunch!! Sandwhiches taste their absolute best when you eat them at the top of a mountain.
Post-lunch snooze? Okay Dad…
Yaaay!
At the pass, we met a Japanese traveller who had taken an awesome shot of a grizz. He oddly didn’t seem too fussed… You DON’T want to be meeting a grizzly bear while you are hiking, but they are beautiful creatures. We did not meet any grizzlies but remained vigilant, because they were apparently in the area.
This hike was TOUGH on the lungs. I was struggling to breathe way more today than I was during my half-marathon. I know I should expect this though, when trekking up a mountainside. We gained about 1,200 metres (2,200 feet) on this hike. I was definitely coughing and wheezing a lot. The thing that helps me most when I’m having trouble breathing on a tough hike is to keep my cool, relax and allow myself lots of breaks.

I’ve been fortunate to have lived and travelled all over this glorious (and vast!) country. I love every single place I’ve been! Each little corner of Canada has its own charms and attributes and I truly can’t get enough. I’m sure you can understand why the Rocky Mountains are so close to my heart though. Just look at them!
