According to Environment Health News
“These vinegars do not violate California’s Prop. 65 limits for lead. All were tested by the supplier in 2007, except for Archer Farms, which was tested in 2009:
Barengo Imported Balsamic Vinegar, 6 percent acidity
Acetum Star B Quality Two Leaves Imported Balsamic Vinegar, 6 percent

Vinegars are usually made from PETROLEUM and it is not required by law for manufacturers to to state how their vinegar is made on the label. You should know how your vinegar is made before preparing those summer salad dressings and marinades.

I have always said that if I was stuck on a deserted island and could only pack one item to bring with me, I would probably pick vinegar. Not only is it edible, and would be a wonderful addition to the vegetable diet I would probably be eating on the island, but it can be used for a variety of medicinal, cleaning and grooming purposes.
