An embryo would be expected to become a blastocyst on day 5 after egg collection.
When an egg gets fertilised by the sperm it starts to divide into two cells, then four cells etc... On day five it will hopefully have become a blastocyst which is a ball of cells, consisting of an outer layer which will become the placenta, and some inner cells

is labeled a "blastocyst", and if it survives, they freeze it. Blastocysts have higher implantation rates as they are "further developed".
We had been told in the operating room on Friday that our blastocyst was "not doing cartwheels." I called today to check on it and spoke with the embryologist. He told me that the blastocyst had died over the weekend. He

So what happens after day 3? Two days later we would like it to be a blastocyst. The day before it becomes a blastocyst, it should be a morula. A morula forms when the 8... if on day 5 you are told the best embryos are morulas, not blastocysts? Not so good. I have had patients get back 2 morulas and become pregnant with twins. However the chances

Hello everyone, this blog will describe the blastocyst. I will show you some pictures and tell you what is good and what is less good. Next time I will tell you a little about our blastocyst experience at NYU.

One of the commonest question patients ask me is whether they should choose a Day 3 transfer or a Day 5 ( blastocyst ) transfer .
Blastocyst transfer was first... belong in the fallopian tube and not the uterus ( unlike blastocysts, which is the stage the embryo reaches when it arrives in the uterus and is ready to implant).
The initial

The advantage of a day 5 blastocyst transfer has to do with selection. These days most reputable programs are putting 2 embryos back in youngish women (I know what you’re... necessary to allow the embryos to grow 2 more days in the lab.
Initially, there was some variation in the new blastocyst media composition and quality, and there were batches

There is this wonderful graphic I stole form someone else's blog ages ago, and I refer to it everyday of the TWW.
Today we just happen to be at the same place where the original poster was the day they posted. Early Blastocyst.
My temps are high, and higher than usual, but who knows what effect the clo.mid could still be having, or the HCG shot

This is the first installment of blastocyst blog; but it's a bit of a pre-requisite. To give you a feel of where we are going, I will start with pictures of eggs and embryos and then blastocysts.
This is an egg. I doesn't really look like an egg. Part of the reason for this is that in this picture there are hundreds of cells, but just
