Are you a non-swimmer who never goes near a swimming pool, lake or ocean? You’re not alone - many adults never learn to swim for a variety of reasons.

This morning was masters swim and I was pretty excited! As I wrote about last Friday, I was going to make an attempt to swim a lane up and challenge myself and my new found swim skills. The snooze button. Bad news.
I snoozed my alarm clock for approximately an hour and a half on Saturday morning and I definitely paid for it in sweat. Instead of heading out for my run at 7:30 am, I started closer to 9. Sooo thank you a million times for all of the encouragement and support about the swimming!!! And I took the plunge (haha get it?) and went for it. I figured I might as well try, you know? And if it hurt… well I’d go from there.
First of all, to all you swimmers out there, you rock. Swimming is hardcore. I had no idea how hard it was. But ...

Yesterday I got up early to head for a swim. I got to the pool and it was full BUT luckily a woman there was nice and offered to rotate me in. AND this woman recognized me from Daily Mile! Her name is Sarah and she’s starting to teach spin at the South Station BSC Thursday nights! I’m going to have to try that class out! I swam for 30 m ...

Join a Masters Team. Most communities have a ‘Masters' team for adults who want to improve their swimming skills. You don't have to be a ‘master' to join!
Learn breaststroke. Even if you are a ‘freestyle' swimmer, breaststroke is a great way to strengthen your thighs, and see where you're going in open water.
Look down. For freestyl ...

I have posted a bit about Hadley's success with waterproof hearing aids and previous swimming instructors. We've had an interesting summer with swimming to date. This June, Hadley resumed swimming lessons at a local swimming club. This place has been a great match for her because all of the instructors are actually adults! Previously, she had had f ...

This is supposed to be my "rest week." Yet, coach snuck in a swim test. I REALLY didn't want to do it. I knew it would be long and I knew it was going to hurt. Dave and I warmed up together then I did his test while he times. After I was done, we switched. Basically, this was 10 X 100 with 10 second rests in between. The first one was too ...

As a strong swimmer, a consistent question that I get from people I give tips to is, “Why do I need to know how to have good turns/underwater push-off’s/etc. in a pool when my race is in open water?”. He ...

Of all the elements of triathlon, swimming is the most skill-based sport. At
the Rock Star Triathlete Academy ( http://www.rockstartriathlete.com ) we've
found that an inefficient swim stroke will hurt your progress even more than
inefficent cycling or running. And no matter how good your fitness is, if
you can't swim efficiently, n ...
