Long term dissolvable sutures used underneath skin closures (you probably have Monocryl, Maxon or PDS) have good points and bad points. They help control the width of scars making them stay thinner via holding the tension of a tight closure. Eventually these sutures dissolve in two to six months or more

Dermabond or Sutures?

Dermabond is a tissue glue used in surgery for the skin. When it first came out it was promoted as an alternative to sutures. Patients may ask about it to avoid discomfort and other times to avoid scars.
I have used it for as long as it has been available and would not recommend its use instead of sutures very often unless good surgical

J&J Secretely Recalls Non-Sterile Sutures in Europe

Recall-plagued Johnson & Johnson quietly recalled a half-million sutures in Europe, primarily in the UK, due to significant risk of contamination from faulty packaging. J&J did not publicize the recall, which took place late last year. However, the recall came to light after the UK's MHRA posted a notice on its website earlier today.
