The reduction in total cholesterol numbers is most likely due to the increase in the number of statins prescribed. That is not good news to me. Statins are expensive, and I believe they encourage people to continue with the bad habits that got them in trouble in the first place. Healthy lifestyle habits, not more drugs, that's my mantra.
