Pseudomonas Aeruginosa , commonly referred to in the cystic fibrosis community as simply "PA," is one of the most prevalent and difficult pathogens to eradicate... and are otherwise healthy, P. aeruginosa will not affect them. P. aeruginosa is often referred to as a "water bug" because of it's ability to survive and grow in moist environments

Dr. A just informed me that although Nathan's most recent sputum culture did not grow pseudomonas aeruginosa, it did grow pseudomonas putida. Apparently this strain is not as serious as pseudomonas aeruginosa because it does not generally become mucoid. Nonetheless, to be on the safe side, Dr. A reccommended we treat it with 2 weeks of oral Cipro

Update: The infection is pseudomonas, although not pneumonia in his lungs, but growing in his ET (endotrachial) tube, the same pseudomonas which lead to his admission... extubations, planned trach... pseudomonas. Groundhog Day?
So, the trachial tube which gives him a passage to breath caused damage to his trachea which has lead to a trachial

Just a quick update to let you know that Tricia's recent lung issues are due to a pseudomonas infection, a common bacteria that tends to plague many CF patients. She was in the hospital for just a few days, home in plenty of time for Thanksgiving, and feeling back to normal now, on home IV's for another week.

able to taste the infection/Pseudomonas. Since TOBI is only every other month, there's 2 months out of this period without TOBI or anything to fight off the lovely Psuedomanas

The dreaded call came yesterday...Zoe has cultured PA for the first time. I got off the phone and cried. Then I got pissed...pissed at cf.
I guess what really gets you is...your floating along thinking, wow, it has been 7 months since she has been in the hospital, we are doing good! Then SLAP!! right in the face.
