1. the rebellious feeling you get by looking tough like you endured hours under a tattoo gun OR
2. just because it takes you back to your childhood when it was fun to adorn your skin with kooky and colorful

I was writing an email to my momma when I had a light bulb go off over my head. My then-boyfriend and I had been creating a tattoo together in honor of our unborn child. With the design in hand, I marched... were made aware of the pregnancy and of my plans to get my degree and raise my child with the father. I was ecstatic and ready and yet so unprepared for what was to come.

New York Times columnist, David Brooks, published a column this weekend commenting on how tattoos have " jumped the shark" in pop culture. There's already some grumbling in the blogosphere here & here (among other places) painting Brooks as both 1) an old fuddy-dutty & 2) a little late to the party with his column.

Q: I have filled out a couple of applications to be a surrogate and now I am thinking that I should get my 3rd tattoo before I get pregnant... a heads up now because some potential Egg Donors and Surrogates out there that are not aware that you can not donate your eggs or become a surrogate if you have had a tattoo or body

So I've been looking for a new tattoo to get while I'm not pregnant. I've got a pretty good idea what I want, a bunch of stars, some big and a lot of little ones, starting at my left hip and wavily traveling up and slightly over my right shoulder. It's going to be pretty big, but my other 6 tattoos are small so I've still got a lot of room to work

tattoo I had took a long time. Over two separate sessions, I believe the artist spent over 6 hours altogether between the outline and coloring. I found out I was pregnant shortly... comments and suggestions are welcome.
