The study... expected to have platelet counts of 10,000/mm3 or less for 5 or more days and received at least 1 plt transfusion--and excluded patients with active bleeding grade 2 or higher

Last Thursday Jaylon received a blood transfusion to start the weekend. The combination of his chemotherapy drugs have pretty much shocked his bone marrow. As I had suspected yesterday, Gavin needed both red blood cell and platelet transfusions today in clinic. This meant that we were there from about 9:30 - 4:00. It's a full-time job for this little guy!

with age, I never got around to doing something so simple, and so life saving. And now here I am with a specific type of cancer that requires lots of transfusions, platelets and other blood products. So far I've had 4 units of blood, 3 units of platelets and 3 units of other blood products. I haven't even been here a week.

Vivienne endured a marathon trip to the medicine room last night. She received:
Chemotherapy - A vincristine push (15 minutes)
G-CSF (30 minutes)
Blood transfusion (more than 2 hours)
Platelet transfusion (one hour and 3o minutes)

As predicted in this point of Gavin's chemo cycle, he needed a blood transfusion today. He felt great, but looked a bit on the pale side. Sure enough, his labwork confirmed that he needed more blood. I was happy that his platelets were high enough to not need a transfusion of that as well. I'd love for that to be the last transfusion for him -- EVER! I
