A couple weeks ago it had been windy for days on end. We were cooped up in the house and I decided we were going to get crafty. In high school, I was a Recreation Leader and we did all sorts of crafting and played games to our hearts content during the spring and summer. Kids love to craft and when you’re in the comfort of you’re own home it’s ...

Green Life editor Josie Garthwaite explained why on NPR 's Bryant Park Project this morning. (Hint: It has to do with markets and melting points.) If you're curio ...

If you are providing your child with bottled water each day, you are potentially adding 200 water bottles to the landfill annually. Multiply this by 800 kids in my local elementary school and it makes 160,000. Yes, some schools have recycling programs, but is your 6 year old disposing of it properly? You see where I'm going with this. A much bette ...

I’ve made my stance on bottled water quite clear before, but I’ll go ahead and reiterate: bottled water is a joke. A few years ago I watched an amazing series from Vice magazine (<-- go watch it right now!) about " garbage island ," the huge floating mass of plastic floating in the Pacific Ocean. It was eye opening to say the least, and ever since then I have made a real effort to reduce my plastic usage. It's so easy to throw something away and forget about ...

This weekend my husband handed me an Op-Ed piece from the New York Times and said “you should really blog about this.” The piece he handed me that day was on the dangers of plastic. “Yeah, we know,” you're thinking. “we’ve all heard the scare tactics before.” Over the last year or so there has been much said on both sides of the debate ...
