, partly b/c of the chop on the lake an partly b/c we didn't have a wall to push off on.
My advice to triathletes out there is to try to add some open water swimming into your... arm recovery. I generally encourage my athletes to swim open water every other week if possible. Keep that in mind in your triathlon training.

Tonight there was an open water swim at Naperville's Centennial Beach. It was being coached by Experience Triathlon. My main reason for going was that the Tri I am doing this weekend is there.

I did it once and it wasn't pretty. I did it a second time and it wasn't that bad, but it wasn't great.
It was an open water swim.
The only thing remotely cool about my first open water swim attempt was that I was the only person on the beach in a full on Tri Suit, complete with butt pads and no bike to get on afterwards! I really dig

Try your race goggles in open water swims *before* the actual race. The visibility that you experience in the pool will be noticeably diminished in the open water... poor sighting in the open water, get a new pair. A company called Aquasphere makes a great swim mask with good face hugging capabilities and awesome visibility.

Holy crap the Chesapeake Bay is cold.
That's what I was thinking as my my training buddy Zach and I waded into the water Sunday afternoon. The air temperature was in the low 60s and the water was somewhere in the 50s.
Brrrrrr.
Don't let the sunshine fool you. It was cold.
Open water swimming was extremely humbling.
