* How common is neutropenia after kidney transplantation and when does it usually occur?
About 20-50% of kidney recipients will experience at least one episode of neutropenia. It typically occurs around day 100 after transplantation and it can last from 1-4 weeks.

This is going to be a quick update because I have to get down to the hospital and I'm afraid I'm gonna hit rush hour traffic (so what else is new?)
John's doing pretty well. His blood count numbers are dropping daily. His is considered neutropenic, meaning his immune system is gone and he has to be careful of bacteria, mold and other fun stuff

As expected, WBC crashed today to 0.16. Hopefully it will only be here another 4-5 days -- we'll be watching closely. I'm sure it will get lower before it starts to climb. Platelets at 22, so tomorrow I'll need a bag. Hemoglobin at 11.4, which they think is slightly overstated due to being dehydrated (I begged to differ with the nurse on this ...

with this. In the meantime while we are waiting to hear back from them I am going to be proactive. Ann has enjoyed freedom from neutropenic safeguards for the last couple of months, but that ends... neutropenic during chemotherapy.
