Efforts are underway to find a way to diversify the funding for peer support by trying to establish it as a Tenncare eligible service throughout the mental health... as the needs of their daily life. Some people simply refuse to accept the stigma attendant with receiving mental health services. Peer support services can fulfill a unique role here

Marion lives in Bergen County, NJ.
Marion has MS and needs to connect with others that also have MS.
Marion can chat with others via internet but she wants to be able to meet and chat with an MS person near her. She (like many others) is looking for some patient to patient- peer support.

Some great news. Magellan Health Services in concert with the DBSA have devised a series of online training courses about peer support services. They are free to access. Many of these course give you CEU’s. If you want to become a peer support specialist, if you work with peer support specialists, or if you are just interested these course offer
