Description of Invention:
Available for licensing are transgenic mice that allow for specific and inducible expression of proteins in melanocytes. Melanocytes are difficult to study because of their paucity in mammalian skin, and these mice present a readily available source of these cells and model to study melanocyte diseases such as melanoma

and for therapeutic intervention. This invention pertains to the identification of a set of neural crest-melanocyte (NC-M) genes through microarray analysis and informatic analysis. Utilizing the extensive sequence information in the expressed sequence tag database (dbEST), the specific set of cDNA sequence was identified for microarray analysis of melanocyte function

Melanoma is a cancer of melanocytes, cells that produce a pigment called melanin in the skin. Melanoma occurs when there is a mutation within the melanocytes, causing the cells to replicate in a disorganized fashion, grow without limit, invade surrounding tissue and disrupt normal tissue function. be just 10 years away from coming to fruition.
“When hair goes gray, there is a progressive disappearance of the melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) from the hair. While there are still melanocytes in the hair, there is still hope that it could be re-pigmented,” L’Oréal’s Patricia Pineau told the Daily Mail.
Apparently, the process will involve some type

the skin pimgentation or coloring process. Our skin contain special cells called melanocytes which produce a substance melanin. Excess of melanin in skin causes darken skin. If melanocytes produce a little amount of melanin it causes light skin. In vitiligo white patches appeare on skin. Whereas darkening of skin due to excess of melanin is termed

by pigmentation generated in the hair follicles called melanocytes. The shade of hair is determined by the amount of melanin present in the hair follicles. The more melanin present the darker the hair will be.
Grey hair is attributed to the decrease of melanocytes in the hair follicles. As we age the melanocytes lose the ability to make pigment which colors our

results when when the melanocytes in your hair follicle stop working. There are 4 different ways in which this can happen (don’t recall them exactly at the moment) but one way, the melanocytes just die and they will never come back. Another way, the melanocytes are moved out of place and they continue to work but the color never makes it into the hair
