A research study from Japan was made public last week. It pointed to lithium as a possible means to reduce suicide. Lithium carbonate remains the treatment of choice for “bipolar disorder” – by conventional psychiatrists in many parts of the world – in spite of its dangers.

Well, there won’t be a shortage of lithium for a while, it seems. Although there hasn’t been a lithium shortage worry or anything, Bolivia has announced that if there were, it’d be solved already.

Ok, no so scared of lithium. If you remember one of my previous posts, I described how MRI scans show that the hippocampus in bipolar patients might be reduced in size, similar to schizophrenia. Well, I just came across another resource about lithium that makes me feel a little better about it. Lithium might increase brain mass.
