Reduce Your Food Miles (And Kilometers, Too) by Green Thinkers Posted Fri 10 Oct 2008 1:59pm FoodMiles.us and FoodKM.com are two new twinned sites that allow consumers to type in their zip or postal code for a list of farmers and shops selling locally grown food in their region. What a cool idea! As they say, it’s time to start reducing the distance that our food travels from the producer to our plates. The goal is to try to red ... Read on »
Miles, miles, miles by chrissto23 Patient Expert Posted Sat 13 Jun 2009 12:04am 1 Comment I've reached a sick point where I feel like I'm a slacker if I don't record at least double digits on any given day. I remember the day, not so long ago, when 10 miles seemed like a long damn ways. Now, I find myself going through mental torment if I don't get in at least 10 miles. I am one sick bastard.... Sunday - 10.49 miles Monday ... Read on »

From Heddonite to Wilkesboro - UUUUP and over Brushy Mountain - and back again. Good ride - Coach Mike was there but not riding due to his recent accident and healing colla ... Read on »

I can see for miles and miles and miles… by emlit81 Posted Fri 25 Dec 2009 12:00am For some reason, Christmas, more than New Year’s, makes me reflect on the year that is coming to a close and look ahead to what the future holds.  This year, as the naughties draw to a (fake) close, I have a lot to reflect on.  My job status is changing, I spent three weeks in the hospital and am now in recovery from an eating disorder (not ... Another 1.5 mile walk today and 0.5 miles yesterday by Allen Patient ExpertHealth Maven Posted Thu 19 Mar 2009 4:09pm Yesterday I walked half a mile with my two grandkids while they took another joy ride in my battery powered jeep. The kids left last night to go to their home, but they will be back tonight. So, I took advantage of being home alone, and I walked the 1.5 mile northward path again this afternoon. I met a guy named Thomas while I was walking. He likes ... Read on »
I ran .83 miles during my 1.5 mile run/walk by Allen Patient ExpertHealth Maven Posted Wed 03 Jun 2009 10:20am Today I used my GPS to measure the distance I ran, and the number is 0.83 miles or 55% of the run. That is the most I've run during my recovery from the blood clots that attacked me in January. That number shows that my gut-feel estimates of 50% that I've been making are pretty close to the real value. I could tell that I was doing a bit more runni ... Read on »
Added a quarter mile to give me 3 miles for my run by Allen Patient ExpertHealth Maven Posted Mon 26 Oct 2009 11:02pm I started my run about 11 am this morning. The temperature was 25 (F) last night, and the air was still cold during my run, even though the temperature in the sun was 50 (F). I was glad I wore my nylon windbreaker. There were a number of runners and walkers on the path, and it was a beautiful day. My wakeup heart rate was 59 this morning. I fe ... Read on »
5 more miles toward my lifetime goal of 1,000,000 miles :) by Allen Patient ExpertHealth Maven Posted Wed 03 Nov 2010 1:02pm Today's run was a duplicate of Monday's run. Almost the same wakeup heart rate. Same route. Same distance. Same performance, getting tired after 2 miles. Same weather, sunny, temperature in the low 60s (F), and a nice day. More people on the path, though. I didn't carry water with me, but I had a bottle of water in my car and took drinks at the b ... Read on »
