There are many misunderstandings among low carbers that I hear from time to time. One is that when we go on a low carb diet, we are burning ketones for fuel. The idea was probably born due to the fact that the heart and a few other body tissues prefer to use ketones over any other fuel source. But preference doesn't mean they get to.

Ketones are small carbon fragments that are the fuel created by the breakdown of fat stores. Ketosis is potentially a serious condition if keytone levels go too

And, that's great. However, tomorrow is supposed to be the start of a carb-up in my cycle. And, I hate to knock myself out of ketosis when it is burning fat so well

wonderfully explains what to do when ketones approach.
Daniel is hovering just over the range of normal -- he's been in the 140's all day, but has recently inched up to the 170's. His latest test for ketones found some in trace to small levels. So he just had some ginger ale with an insulin chaser, and we'll see what happens next.

me to return. My blood pressure is low (100/60) - it's usually normal (about 120/80). Also, for the second time, I have a high level of ketones in my urine. Now, this can be serious, if coupled with a high blood sugar level - but that is normal. The nurse originally thought the high ketone level was due to dehydration, but I told her I've been drinking
