is profoundly deaf ask me for help. She wants to volunteer somewhere and they wont provide an interpreter for her. I was furious when she told me this. I contacted the American's Disability Act to ask what OUR RIGHTS ARE.
Truthfully, I dont even know my rights as a deaf person. So in a way im glad that I called because I wouldn't of known all this information

I just got an e-mail press release from DODHH – Division on Deafness and Hard of Hearing. The governor of Michigan has signed the interpreter bill! See below for the press... and pharmacies; banks, hotels, restaurants and theatres. Reasonable notice is required if a qualified interpreter is needed.

. It makes the interpreter look bad, and it makes the Deaf client look bad, when the interpreter can hardly voice for the client!

to the Michigan Deaf Association board and visitors at the MDA board meeting on March 12, 2011, and in her notes, she stated that over 210 individuals had taken the BEI (state interpreter... strongly believe that she is not being forth-coming with the MI Deaf Community about what truly is going on with the interpreter shortage crisis and the regulations and rules

was apparently taken aback by the huge amount of money spent on interpreters for people who don't speak English or cannot hear in the county courtrooms. He suggested that maybe our state... they're deaf, we don't drop a book next to them and see if they jump?"
