Patients at times ask me about diets to maintain their cosmetic procedure results or get into the weight range they would like before a major cosmetic procedure like a tummy tuck.
The Lemonade diet (also called Master Cleanse) looks like starvation to me. Starvation isn’t sustainable so it is not really good for surgery preparation

body go into starvation mode. Most of the time, they say not to eat less than 1,000 calories a day. I usually do this easily, but some days I’m just not hungry enough to want to eat that many calories. How often can I eat, say, 700-900 calories without “going into starvation mode”?

Many people have tried fad or starvation diets to lose weight. It is no secret that fad dieting causes hunger and deprivation. But isn’t that what we are supposed to do? NO!! I've mentioned the Minnesota Starvation Study many times on my blog. For those who may not have heard about it, a (very) brief summary: at the end of WWII, it was obvious... a period of semi-starvation so that various diets for re-feeding could be tested.

Starving yourself may make you feel better about yourself
you may think you dodged all the bad calories, or whatever but the wicked truth is that going too long without eating causes your body to switch into energy conservation mode, which slows the rate that you burn calories and makes you feel more tired, and less alert.

Three members of a Philadelphia-based cult have been charged with first-degree murder in the starvation death of a 19-month old boy.
