Significant hypoglycemia (lowbloodsugar) episodes in Type 2 diabetics might increase the risk of dementia. That's what a study, performed by Kaiser Permanente personnel, suggests after 16,000 patients were tracked over a 22 year period.

To prevent hypoglycemia there is a need for maintaining normal blood glucose levels, education, decision strategies, volitional control, and avoid hyper and hypoglycemia..., especially those treated with insulin, are at risk for developing hypoglycemia. Treatment, even with oral agents such as sulfonylureas, increases this risk.

We just got home from another stay at Childrens. Blood glucose levels were 41, so she was admitted for a few days. Genetics say this how how Mito effects some children - dysmotility and hypoglycemia. She's having the big muscle biopsy at the same time as her gtube placement. We'll find out more when the results of that biopsy are back
