Don't buy everything at once. Get used to your gear before adding the fishfinder, live bait well, adjustable rod holder, and GPS
Get a good seat. Invest in a thermal molded seat (not foam cushion) for maximum comfort
Get a gunwale. Having a gunwale on a fishing kayak will let you mount a rod holder, fish finder, compass, and so on

Sea Kayak Georgia will be hosting their Symposium and BCU Week October 28th through November 1. This year they are featuring master classes with Gorden Brown, and of course Nigel Dennis and Fiona Whitehead will be there for BCU 5* Training

Choose a comfortable seat. Look for good back and hip support, and take the kayak out for a try before buying
Cockpit versus sit on top. Sit on top kayaks are great for beginners who fear being trapped in a cockpit, and for fishing. And they won't swamp if it rolls

people have not written everything there is to write about rolling a kayak. And it’s certainly true that there is no new methods to rolling. However, at least for me, there has... head down and all the rest. I was extremely discouraged. I’m sure if it were not for my somewhat dogged nature, I would have just quit.
