The word cervix has only recently come to refer almost exclusively to the portion of the uterus that narrows between the vagina and the body of the uterus (corpus uteri). Cervix is from the Latin for “neck” and uterus is from the Latin for “womb.” Thus, the cervix is the neck of the womb–strange imagery, non? Anyway, what exactly

As a result of my duo utero, I always thought this would give me double

Yeesh, better be careful, I think, coming from a long line of hyper-critical women.
Think of the uterus as the rich dark earth in which the creative seeds from the ovaries grow in time. Our uterus, Northrup says, is energetically related to our innermost sense of self - symbolic of our

Anyone hear of this? Someone posted this in Midwifery Today:
a brief article in Fit Pregnancy (Oct/Nov 2008) that states: "Labor pain evidently comes mainly from the cervix, not the uterus, a Swedish researcher says. In non-pregnant women, the uterus contains pain-sensitive fibers, but for reasons unknown, those fibers disappear almost

you have effaced and dilated.
The cervix is the lower, narrow part of the uterus, where it connects with the top area of the vagina. To see some great images of the anatomy... as a percentage. If there is no cervical effacement, then it is zero. If it is totally thinned, it is at 100%, and considered completely effaced.

(the cervix pictures are in color, but it's nothing more colorful than the average woman sees

It’s National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month so I decided to write a song because I’m sick of bra colors and I don’t think panty colors would help much (at least not for the cause.) I’m not going to sing it but I challenged Jack Bouffard to attempt to stammer and fumble though it on YouTube without music.

Midwives worry about cervical scarring, we worry about cervical lips, we worry about effacement, we worry about swelling of the cervix, we worry about... of lovely births where the cervix has been a huge topic of consternation. I, universe, would like for that to be over please. Please ask me not to do an exam. No more cervicalRead on »
