Ideally, early in the relationship between the nurse and the caregiver such issues are addressed. The big move is to encourage a Case Manager to deal with the family, not just the patient.

caregivers are dealing with depression and that we have to address.
On a personal note my family is seeing the damage unchecked depression can have on a caregiver. My mother-in-law... a waster of a pill.

A tip from a friend, Expecting Executive, led me to The Huffington Post article which refers to a report showing care workers have the highest rate of depression (of all occupations studied). I'm not all that surprised. One reason is poor pay for very hard work. Another is lack of respect in our society for those who do "service" oriented work
