In the wake of flooding from Tropical Storm Noel, last month, there is a outbreak of leptospirosis in the Dominican Republic. The article, from Reuter’s also went to to say that there has been 25 deaths and almost 200 illnesses.

Leptospirosis is the most common zoonotic infection, worldwide. Outdoor athletes (hikers, cyclists, etc) are especially vulnerable to this infection because transmission.... This disease typically infects local rice or sugarcane workers and hikers/backpackers/campers. The more severe form of leptospirosis may be known as Weil’s Syndrome.

Now it’s not only in Metro Manila. A lot of people have been hospitalized in the province due to Leptospirosis. Especially those that were badly hit by Ondoy and Pepeng... now as an aftermath a lot of people are in the hospital because of this disease. But what really is LEPTOSPIROSIS?
