In my last article I was outlining a talk I gave recently to a group of some 80 people here in Charleston. The subject was the Evolution of the Bicycle, and I had reached the period around the 1950s when my own interest in bicycles began.
In October 2009 I wrote a series of three articles here on the history of frame design, where I covered ...

[Thanks to Alan over at the terrific Eco-Velo blog (http://www.ecovelo.info) for bringing this to my attention.]
Word is out that Walmart now sells a bonafide "Commuter" bike.
It has almost all the right stuff: upright riding position, fatter tires, rigid frame and fork (no shocks!) and a rear rack.
(It could use fenders, too; but I live ...

A great thing for the American cycling community: the Bicycle Hall of Fame has deserved to be in a city like Davis for a long time.
From this morning’s Sacramento Bee:
The city of Davis broke away from a pack of cities Friday to be named the new home of the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame.
“I’m ecstatic,” said City Councilman Stephen Souza ...

The 2011 Urban Assault Ride was a blast!
The weather was perfect, the course was fun, and my partner didn't quit the race, plus we had sweet matching outfits.
How does Brodie sneak into all the pics?

Today we went to one of our local bike stores so Erik could try the Trek Madone 5.2. He really liked the Roubaix but wanted to give the Madone a fair shot as well. I decided that I would try the Madone 4.7 even though it's not as nice as the 5.1 but lo and behold, there was a 5.1 in the shop! Apparently Trek rethought its decision to discontinu ...

I was having coffee/beer with my bud, Keith Byrd, the leader of Social Cycling Austin . He was telling me he’s thinking about having a tall bike built for him and the arms race that has broken out in the tall bike crowd. If you go on many social rides in town, eventually you’ll see a tall bike.Usually, ...

We set out early on sun morning. Karel and I woke up at 5:30am and after having my morning cup of coffee, I prepared our cooler of fruit, yogurt, water bottles and PB&J sandwiches. However, before we set out for our 3 hour trip, I wanted to get in a quick 30 min run. I just love early morning running outdoors! After my run from 6:30-7 I packed ...
