What is birdFlu?
Avianflu is caused by a form of influenza virus that usually only infects birds and sometimes infects pigs. The few people who have become sick... who became infected with the H5N1 strain of avianflu caught it directly from birds. It has not been proven that H5N1 can be spread from person to person.

The birdflu virus called H5N1 can kill you. There is no birdflu epidemic in humans, but there could be. You can get birdflu only from birds. Since humans spend more time with humans than they do with birds, humans are at very low risk for birdflu. The concern is that H5N1 could mutate and be spread from human to human.
