On Friday night I drove south into the valley to run a 5k. It was put on by the Seaport Striders running club to raise money for Haitian relief efforts. I drove down with Joe, a guy I recently met at the running/beer drinking group that meets Wednesday evenings at Pullman's awesome local brewery .

There are a number of different benefits which an individual can gain from running on a regular basis. There are some runners who run simply for the joy of running but there are others who run because they realize there are a great deal of benefits which can be gained from rigorous exercise such as running. Yesterday for my 617th joggling day in a row, I did something that I rarely do. I ran with a running group. There is no particular reason that I usually run alone except for the fact that my joggling is unscheduled. When I want to go, I want to go. Perhaps it just doesn’t occur to me to call up running friends.

Running has a lot of benefits, many of which I've lauded on the blog—heart health, aerobic fitness, overall fitness, healthy competition, running buddies. The list could go on and on, but one of the unwritten, not often talked about, but every-runner-knows benefits is the S.B.B. Rule Not ringing a bell? Maybe this will help....Spit. Burp. Break

As promised, I'd like to touch upon the OTHER benefits of running -- that is, aside from weight loss/management. Namely, I'd like to discuss some of the great positive... too esoteric about it, I find that my time spent running, whether alone or with others, can be like a waking dream. ;-)

, hill work, and weight or resistance training helps to counteract the cortisol, keeping your muscle mass intact. Running has a whole host of other benefits too.

People who... be getting older, I guess we all are, but I feel like I'm in the best shape of my life. I'm definitely more fit than when I was in my 20s. I think it has to do with running. You know
