Getting Started in Running
Many women, myself included started running so that they can take part in a charity event. The 5K race which is just over 3 miles, is the first goal that many new runners aspire too, and there are many 5K races and events that cater just for women.
For example in the UK alone there is the now famous race for life series

I ran 5 miles today and did my second attempt at simulating a 5K race. I followed Bruce's suggestion to do it in one-mile segments with a recovery between miles. I walked for half a mile for recovery. My laps were as follows.
Mile 1 - 10:32
Mile 2 - 9: 59
Mile 3 - 9:43
I timed the last half-mile at 9:24.
I didn't carry any water

the race, and it ended up that I showed the course as 3.59 miles instead of 3.1. I don’t think I took that many extra steps out of the way, and I don’t know how courses are measured... and water.
The race had 450 people, and as most 5Ks are, it was very relaxed. But still, I wanted to push it and make it a good race. It’s also my first 5K since I’ve been blogging

Based on the results of last years Capital Pursuit race , I am torn between whether or not to sign up for the 10 mile or the 5k which is 3.1 miles.
I would... for intensity tells me to go all out and do the 10 mile ("wooohoo run baby run!!").
I will decide by Sunday at the latest. One week before the race! (how mature of me!)

to 11 mile and over many hills! I took it easy and just ran with how my body felt. I started out just doing a 5k yesterday, nearly quiting after mile 1. All of a sudden I felt...
I decided to flip my weekend training and complete 7 miles yesterday so I could run the 5K race today with my boyfriend. The results have not posted as of yet

It's no secret to many of my blog readers that I hate running in the cold and have a really hard time getting motivation to put in my mile here in Portland... the hell - a 13 mile run followed by a 5K the next day? Sign me up! Well, since I didn't run the 13 miles I figured I'd at least try to run a decent 5K time.
The sign

Oh, how I love you Foam Roller!!!!!
This morning was a 5K race (see race report below) in the morning. This is going to make my northern readers angry but it was hot and humid for the race. I was soaked with sweat 5 minutes into it! I forgot how difficult breathing can be in the Houston humidity. Luckily, it is all leaving us tonight

Got up this morning and had a protein shake and a whole wheat bagel with some peanut butter. I wanted to have some fuel to burn in me before I tried my 14 mile Cycle and 5K... swim 500 meters and probably still do 14 miles on the bike. No way could I do a 5K after that right now. Swimming just takes too much out of me, but with training, practice
