Conscious eating

Posted by Tamar F.

In a recent issue of Body and Soul magazine, they speak about “conscious eating”. If you are not in touch with your feelings, if you are distracted during meals or eat to numb your feelings, you will overeat and eat foods that just go for a quick fix (like sugary carbs). You need to slow down, eat in silence, and light a candle. Take some time to breathe and appreciate the flavors and colors of the meal. Listen to your body when it is full. Try to do this one meal a week.

I like to keep it simple and acknowledge when I overeat and move on to live. So much attention is placed on eating; perhaps, it's best to place one's attention on something else like helping others.
I feel that having a regular meditation practice has made me so much more aware of how I treat my body. I tend to be someone who is constantly stuck in my head, but meditation techniques have made me more aware of what's going on in my body. It's amazing how intuitive we already are if we take the time to listen to that inner voice that undoubtedly will tell us when we're reaching for the wrong food. It's just a matter of being able to tune in, but once you start, it's hard not to.
