As promised, here are some pictures from last weekend! My whole immediate family: brother, sister, me, mom, and dad spent the weekend at the farm house to celebrate my parent's 33rd anniversary and my sister's last weekend home before she moves for grad school.
my typical july/august breakfast fruit with noni juice (noni juice not pictured)
Fresh Veggie Juice
I juice romaine, cucumber, celery, fennel, and lemon, drink it slowly, then in the same cup I juice carrots, beets, and ginger-that's why there is some green residue in the cup. It tastes better to keep them separate. It looks like halloween or christmas or something! And it tastes like veggies. Delicious veggies.
Then I have my home-made sourdough bread with butter and home-made pecan butter...or soaked oats because I only make sourdough like once a month. Sourdough is very controversial because of the gluten in wheat. I use sprouted spelt flour (spelt has a lower gluten content), and I let the flour/water mixture ferment up to 4 days before baking, so most of the gluten is consumed by the yeast. I've read about people with celiac disease who are able to eat homemade sourdough that has been prepared this way. Anyway, as you can see, my breakfast routine is very labor intensive and time consuming, but this healthy food is a necessary part of the healing process. And thank god I have my mom to help me! A lot of people ask me what it's like to live at home again, but it's not about that, it's about needing my family at this point in my life. It's hard for a lot of people to imagine breaking away from the expected routine of going to college, getting a job, etc, but at some point, you have to do what your body needs and what feels right for you, so that's where I am right now!
