Hi Zelda I was diagnosed with PMR with swollen ankles and pain, in fact pain in every joint it turned out eventually to be Lyme Disease. The blood tests for which miss 50% of cases. There will be many people mis diagnosed with PMR when in fact it will be lyme Disease. Treatment for lyme is opposite to steroids it is long term antibiotics to fight off a very formidable bacteria. Good luck in finding something that caused your illness. They do not know what causes PMR they just know that steroids reduce inflammation which in turn appears to relieve symptoms. Finding the source of the symptoms is what is really needed.
