Frankincense Supplement

Posted Nov 17 2008 2:37am
There is an enormous variety of Boswellia trees that produce this resin. Because of all the varieties, there also is a slight difference in the resins of these tress. The resin, referred to as tears, is used in incense, as well as perfumes.

Frankincense has been known and used for ages. It was mainly used for its aromatic smell. The Egyptians used it to burn and grind it to a powder to make kohl, the black eyeliner. In the film industry, it is used to create smoke. It is believed this resin has healing abilities.

Reduces inflammation and treats RA, OA and bursitis symptoms. Indian frankincense may treat symptoms of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.

What we know:
May have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, but evidence is limited and effects are inconsistent.

In a 2004 study, Indian frankincense was tested as a treatment for knee OA. Researchers recruited 30 people with knee OA and gave half the group a daily supplement containing 333 mg of Indian frankincense; others got placebo. People who took Indian frankincense reported less knee pain, better mobility and an ability to walk longer distances than those taking placebo.

As Aroma-therapy, Frankincense is said to relieve stress and anxiety. Other medicinal uses throughout the ages are for tumors, vomiting, dysentery, fevers, leprosy, cancer, gonorrhea, carbuncles, congestion and as an astringent and is used in medications for digestion and healthy skin in Asia.

It is edible as well . Oil from the resin is also used for flavor in cooking and to brew tea.

Frankincense was used on burnt offerings. Even though we are no longer required to give burnt offerings, we are told to pray without ceasing. It is such a small thing to do, but it is the most powerful!

Psalm 141:2
Let my prayer be set before You as incense, The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
