Diamonds in the rough and need some polishing while growing up, but that does not diminish the fun by any means.
Certified diamonds come in a large selection and can easily be bought in any shape or size, even with or without a setting. I don't think we will ever make it to the status of a certified diamond; there is always something that needs polishing up.
Even unpolished though, it is the setting that brings a diamond to its full potential. :-)
