Causes and treatment of hip pain

I experience hip pain on the right hand side when I get out of bed in the morning. The hip feels as if it is bruised and the pain can be felt on the outside of the hip, and the outside of the leg up to my knee. It just about disappears after my morning walk. It returns when getting up after sitting down and eases again after movement. While sitting down there is no pain.
I had back surgery on L3 - L4 disc 6 years ago. I am 61 years old. Wearing my back brace helps, but pain killers give only minor relief.
