what could cause dizziness, slow heart beat, tiredness, and feeling like you are going to pass out

Posted by letah1982

My husband has been feeling like he is going to pass out everyday for the past month. He says that when he starts to feel like he is going to pass out his heart slows down and he gets dizzy , then he feels like he is going to pass out. He has had everything done to him: blood work, ct scan, x-rays, halter monitor, ekg, diebetes test, and everything has came back normal. What else could it be? He also has been on 2 different kinds of depression medicines. anxiety medication and medication for his nerves and nothing has worked. Please help us!!!

It appears that your husband's physician has concluded that his symptoms are part of an anxiety disorder, perhaps with depression, and not from an organic disease. On what you've written this seems a reasonable conclusion, letah1982.

It is not clear to me when your husband was first prescribed medications. If it was within the last month then it is not surprising that the antidepressants are not working. It can take 3-12 weeks for these to kick-in, and they often make things worse in the initial weeks.

I assume the anxiety medication is a benzodiazepine such as diazepam (Valium), alprazolam (Xanax) or lorazepam (Ativan). These do begin working within minutes of taking the first dose, however, given the extra symptoms from the antidepressants I can understand why they appear to be doing little. It could be a lot worse without them.

Unfortunately, there are no quick, easy solutions. It will take some time for your husband to recover, and there are no guarantees that he will fully. Anxiety disorders and depression are difficult conditions to treat.

Once your husband is stabilized on the medication I suggest he considers therapy. The cognitive behavioral therapies are proven treatments for anxiety and depression and may help overcome those aspects the medications don't address fully. Getting regular exercise is also recommended. There is growing evidence that this can be nearly as effective as medication for mild to moderate anxiety and depression. Omega-3/fish oil may also help.

I have similar symptoms, been going on for a couple of months now. I suddenly get dizzy and feel nauseas like I'm going to faint. Have been to doctors and had several tests which all came back normal. The doctor now thinks it's a problem with the inner ear which although is not any kind of serious health risk does cause dramatic symptoms. Is possible your husband might have something similar

I understand that you believe your symptoms are more than just anxiety, but they are in fact textbook indicators of an anxiety disorder, mkrisz1. The escalation in severity suggests it is getting worse.

Are you being treated for this? If so what is the treatment?
