After Lineysha’s elimination, Jinkx Monsoon was praised for her performance in the previous episode. However, she still felt like she wasn’t as popular as Ro-Laska-Tox, for example. “You should be taking me as a threat,” said Jinkx as we saw her settling down to a narcoleptic nap.
Back in the workroom, with 8 remaining queens, RuPaul introduced this week’s mini challenge. It was called Drag In The Dark and the queens had to beat their mugs in total darkness – amazing. To be honest, they all looked pretty messy. Though I thought Jade Jolie, Ivy Winters and Detox actually looked decent! Of course, Detox was the winner and was thus anointed as the leader of the main challenge.
The main challenge this week was for the girls to write and record a new inspirational anthem entitled ‘Can I Get An Amen?’ as an 80s-inspired super-group. Detox had to split the queens into teams to work on separate parts of the song so, unsurprisingly, she picked Roxxxy Andrews and Alaska as her team. Jade, Ivy and Jinkx formed another group and, finally and very controversially, Alyssa Edwards and Coco Montrese were paired up! The shade!
Setting to work on their new hit song, Detox decided to put Alyssa and Coco at the start of the song for the first verse, literally because she thought it would be funny. “I’m so over these girls; I’m done,” said Coco.
Coco and Alyssa were definitely struggling, however I felt Alyssa was putting a lot more effort into it than Coco – perhaps she was pulling a Pandora and giving up before she’d even started. Ivy appeared to be getting along with Jinkx more than Jade and it looked like it was kinda awkward and uncomfortable between them.
After she visited each group, giving them some words of wisdom and support, RuPaul announced the guest judges this week would be The Pointer Sisters and La Toya Jackson!
In the recording studio, Coco and Alyssa started off with a bit of drama, getting Detox involved because she put them first. Coco wasn’t too bad with the vocals but Alyssa was just hilarious! She should definitely stick to dancing. Jade seemed a little unconfident and it looked bad. Ivy was absolutely amazing and professional, as was Jinkx! Roxxxy was fabulous but got her English wrong a bit and Detox showed her talents but messed up!
Back in the workroom, Coco and Alyssa conspired against Detox for setting them up for failure. This caused an argument between the three and for once, Coco and Alyssa were on the same side! Roxxxy got involved which was not cool and I’m starting to dislike the clique.
For the runway, the girls this week had to feature a favourite body part so they all get to work on their outfits. During the drag-process, the queens discussed Detox’s plastic surgery and Jade Jolie’s coming-out story.
