I have really bad anxiety and insomnia, how can I get some sleep?

Posted by Bellasmama82

I started Zoloft for anxiety 6 years ago, last year I kept forgetting to take it, which led me to stop taking it completely this May because I felt like it was causing more panic attacks, but now I have night panic attacks while I am asleep, I wake up breathless and I can't seem to fall asleep. (I have a doctor's appt this Tuesday) What can I do to get some sleep?

I suspect the increased panic attacks you were experiencing while still taking Zoloft were caused by you not taking it regularly. Antidepressants must be taken daily to maintain their effectiveness.

Unfortunately, there isn't much available over-the-counter that will stop nocturnal panic attacks and help you sleep. Omega-3s/fish oil might in the long term, but not immediately. You could try melatonin, but no guarantees. Sorry. :(

I take an anxiety medication, but it also works with my bp meds.  I use to be on xanax and I found that they were not for me.  I needed a different class of medication.  My cardiologist put me on propanalol and klonopin.  They work well for me.  My local doctor tried to put me on zoloft, but I didn't like the side effects on me, so I began taking herbal remedies such as valerian, especially at night before I go to bed.  Lemon balm extract is also good before bedtime.  I hope this helps.  I know that feeling you  are talking about waking up and it's something you have to experience to understand completely.
