I’ve been misdiagnosed of OCD and GAD and today my psychiatrist told me I have Asperger’s Symdrome?

Im 15, and all the extreme worry drpression anxiety was caused by my asperger’s syndrome. Is it common to have anxiety disorders along with asperger’s syndrome?

Unfortunately, some people with Asperger’s syndrome are first misdiagnosed with another problem, such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or obsessive-compulsive disorder, possibly because the symptoms of some conditions are similar to those of Asperger’s.

Additionally, other conditions may coexist with Asperger’s, and this may delay the diagnosis. Is it common to have anxiety disorders along with asperger’s syndrome. It is estimated that up to 80% of children with Asperger Syndrome also experience intense anxiety symptoms.

When anxiety symptoms are untreated, they can further interfere with a child’s quality of life. Children with both Asperger Syndrome and Anxiety Disorders experience a more limited social world than children with only one disorder..

There is some early evidence to suggest that cognitive behavioural group therapy with specific modifications can be successful in treating anxiety symptoms in children with Asperger Syndrome In a study involving children with both disorders most benefited from their participation in the group therapy program and showed fewer anxiety symptoms after 12-weeks of consistent attendance.2 Future research is being done to get stronger evidence for the effectiveness of the group therapy program.

Do not give up!Take care as always!!
