Faux heart attacks and panic.
It won't be news to anyone who knows he or she has panic disorder, but a recent article confirms that panic symptoms can mimic a heart attack. From the article:

Four of five people who show up at emergency rooms with chest pain suggestive of heart attacks go home with the reassuring news from the doctor that they do not have heart disease.

That's good news the first time it happens, but what do you do if you continue to have frightening spells of chest pain...

That reassuring doctor should have told you that one in three people who have chest pains and normal hearts turn out to have a psychiatric condition called panic disorder.

A series of these attacks is called panic disorder and is about as common as epilepsy. Most people put up with panic disorder for years before finding out that it's a treatable condition, but by then it often has caused insomnia, phobias, job loss, depression or, sometimes, suicide attempts.
