Dermabrasion System

Dermabrasion is an old tried and tested technique used for tattoo removal. Initially tried to remove body scars and blemishes, it emerged as a successful solution to get rid of unwanted tattoos by sanding away the inked layer of skin and allowing new skin to grow over it so that not even a trace of the tattoo remains. It has remained a successful method for removal of tattoos mainly due to its success rate in wiping out the tattoo. Tattoos have become a fad particularly with the younger generation, and despite the pain remains a flourishing industry. Equally flourishing a business is tattoo removal since those who get tattoos, a significant number of them get fed up of them and what they may have sworn to keep for life, wish to get removed within a few months. Tattoo removal is even more painful than getting a tattoo in the first place, yet people go through it with smiling faces.

It is preferable to go to a skilled plastic surgeon who is experienced in Dermabrasion method of removing tattoos . The steps he will follow include:

  • Thorough cleaning of the tattoo area with an antiseptic
  • Spraying a freezing spray to freeze the skin in the area
  • Inject a pain killer or anesthetic to make the are numb enough to not feel the pain
  • Sand away the top layers of the skin into which the ink of the tattoo has been spread. Surgeons generally use a rotary abrasive instrument for the purpose
  • Dressing the wound after applying special antibiotic and pain relieving creams to ease the pain and hasten the healing process
  • Pain killers are prescribed to relieve the pain and the burning sensation in the area
  • The wound has to be cleaned regularly and antiseptic creams applied
  • The healing may take 2-4 weeks if not more

The entire process is not easy and makes the patient undergo a lot of pain, but this is never a deterrent. This can be attributed to the firm determination of the tattoo owner to get rid of it, and instead of living with something that no longer appeals, they opt for the painful route, which will yield positive results.

Most people feel that dermabrasion is worth the pain that has to be endured, because it needs to be carried out once for a large patch of the skin and the tattoo is wiped away completely. Other, less painful methods would require multiple sittings with no guarantees about results, and are also more expensive. Dermabrasion offers a cost advantage as well, and in most cases, patients are able to take care of the post-operative cleaning and dressing of the wound themselves. They only return to the doctor for a follow-up visit after a few days, by which time the wound is close to getting completely healed. The prospect of getting a clear, new skin to grow in place of the tattooed one spurs them towards this cumbersome procedure. Thus, those who wish to get tattoos removed, will positively agree that Dermabrasion is worth every bit of the pain they have to endure.
