Clonazepam and fatigue

Posted by thegirlwithpaindownthere

Does anyone take Clonazepam and just feel incredibly fatigued all the time?  I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, so I'm trying to figure out if it's just that or of the drug is making it worse.

Clonazepam tends to be sedating, especially when you first start taking it. Most of the benzodiazepines are. However, this does tend to ease after a few weeks.

Best wishes

I've been taking it for several months now.  I think I'm going to talk to my doctor about trying something different.  Sometimes my fatigue is just debilitating; if the drug has anything to do with that, I need to find something else.

If you have not already been prescribed an antidepressant than that may be the way to go. Fluoxetine (Prozac) is usually the most energizing of the SSRIs.

Alternatively, beta-blockers can be effective in mild anxiety. They don't reduce anxiety as such, but block the physical flight-or-fight response to anxiety, heart palpitations, sweating, etc. Buspirone (Buspar) is another alternative. It seems to work much of the time for Generalized Anxiety Disorder, but rarely for other anxiety disorders.

My doc just reduced my clonazepam to .5mg in the morning and .5 at night and added 10mg of prozac, so hopefully I'll be less tired soon.  But it's only been a couple days so far - still tired as of right now.

Antidepressants generally take 4-12 weeks to 'kick-in', thegirlwithpaindownthere.

Unfortunately, the side-effects can start much earlier. :(

Best wishes

Yes I've beed told to watch out for the side effects.   So far, the only one I notice it dry mouth, and hopefully that'll be it for side effects.  And I have a 2 week appt. with the doctor so he can check and make sure that Prozac isn't doing anything negative to me. Thanks for the info, Ian.
