Would recent cataract surgery cause my brother who has Down Syndrome to suddenly not recognize me? He has early ALS diagnoses.

He was fine until a couple of days after surgery. It happens in the early evening. He wants to know where sister is even though I'm sitting right there with him.

Hello,

I'm not a medical doctor.

My Mom had Alzheimers, and we too would notice knew lapses of memory if she was hospitalized or given an anesthetic. I believe it's fairly common to see this. Often, it will correct itself in a few days.

Thanks so much Sandy. You are right about the correcting. It took almost a week and a half but he finally came out of it. I am so thankful he knows I am right here with him. :)
