I spent many years caring for an elder friend who was alcoholic. He had many falls because of alcohol. HIs last fall broke his hip, and he died shortly after. I've witnessed several other events with elderly people and alcohol and seen the effects it has on their bodies and on their relationships with children and grandchildren. Elders and alcohol abuse is a big issue that is just beginning to receive the attention it deserves.
