Dementia patient insisting on independence

Posted by poppynic

Hi, I'm writing on behalf of my Mum who is looking after my father who has some ischemic brain disease and, as his psycho-geriatrician said, probably some other things going on but he doesn't know what!!  Anyway, Dad insists there is nothing wrong with him and wants to do things that he is not capable of - for instance today he insisted he would go and get some money out from the bank - he had several goes at the Eftpos machine but couldn't manage it - it causes Mum a lot of stress - she said she would go with him but he insisted he didn't need her.  How can she respond to him?
