All Aboard the Boomer Express in the Rose Parade this morning

Posted Jan 03 2011 11:13pm

Did you watch the Rose Parade this morning? New Years day wouldn’t be New Years day without the The Tournament of Roses Parade from Pasadena, California. And this morning it was extra special as one of the floats was the Boomer Express.

Advocates have been ramping up awareness efforts. Geiger says the association’s recent Breakthrough Ride a group of Alzheimer’s researchers rode their bikes across the country and gathered 110,000 signatures that they presented to Congress drew a lot of attention and helped pass the National Alzheimer’s Project Act to increase disease funding this month.

Riding the float is a chance to feel hopeful, says Libby Embry of Abilene, Texas, who was diagnosed in 2007 at age 59. Embry plans to deck herself out in purple, the Alzheimer’s Association’s trademark color. “I don’t care if it’s pouring rain,” she says. “I’m going to have a wonderful time.”

It was a gorgeous day for the parade! And the Boomer Express was a gorgeous ride. I think we’re all hoping that more interest in this dreaded disease will bring more research and eventually a cure!
