What Would You Do, For a Chance?

Posted Jan 07 2009 6:11pm
Yesterday, I went to my favorite pizza place for this most amazing white Greek pizza (garlic, spinach, feta cheese combo).  It's my guilty pleasure.  Every once in awhile, I have to get a slice, but only when my food allergic girl is in school.

It was a good thing I had a craving for this pizza.  I ran into a friend of mine who happened to be having lunch with a friend, who had a child with severe food allergies, just like my child.  We started talking, one food allergic child's mother to another, and what she told me gave me hope.

Turns out, she has been bringing her daughter to a holistic healer for the past year and a half.  Her daughter, who was anaphylactic to dairy, can now eat ice cream.  She was allergic to eggs, and now, she can eat eggs.  In the next few weeks, they will start working on the peanuts.

This holistic healer is not a doctor.  She is not affiliated with hospitals.  But, she says she has "cured" many children from their food allergies in eight years

She works on restoring the natural balance in the body and emotions through various energy healings, which I don't claim to understand.  What I'm trying to grasp is if this is possible, if the hope we all wish for, is all a matter of believing in an alternative method of healing.

You know it doesn't come cheap.  $140 per hour.  And for children with anaphylactic types of food allergies there needs to be a commitment of at least a year, with weekly half-hour sessions.  But no guarantees.

So, I'm trying to figure this out. Is this a hoax? A chance for hope? For normalcy? Or is it something where the child just happens to outgrow the allergy?

What do you think?
