What would cause my inner cheeks to swell?

I woke this morning to an itching sensation in my inner cheeks. I got up and brushed my teeth and also used some Listerine. My cheeks began to swell. My throat was itching as well, but thankfully that did not swell. I took 50 mg of Benadryl and it seems to help a little but my cheeks are still swollen. I work in an animal shelter and after having my eldest son I have had allergy symtoms but have never officially been tested for allergens. I have a runny nose and am sneezing 90 % of the time. I also have 2 dogs at home (Yorkies), but they make my allergies flare at times as well. To my knowledge I am not alergic to any foods but is it possible for allergies to progress and get worse or can this be from something else? Also, should I see my regular pysician or go straight to a specialist to get this looked at?
